Description:

Troy, Gabriella and the students of East High must deal with issues of first love, friends and family while balancing their classes and extracurricular activities.
It's the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes find their cliques, recount their vacations and look forward to the new year. Basketball team captain and resident jock, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. They cause an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical that is being led by Ms. Darbus. Although many students resent the threat posed to the "status quo," Troy and Gabriella's alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well.

Show Notes:

  • Since the Directors are looking for a "pop sound", please choose a contemporary musical theater or pop ballad for your audition!

Dance Auditions & Callbacks for both Auburn and Roseville will be held at Parkside Church 3885 Richardson Dr, Auburn, CA 95602 on Saturday, 2/22.
  • You will receive an email with a link to the online audition form. You will need to have your head shot and audition song file ready to upload when you go to complete the form. Be sure to have your tape measure ready to take the costuming measurements!
  • If you want to be considered for both shows, you only need to go to the audition that you signed up for. **PLEASE do not change your audition date!
  • Callbacks for both Auburn & Roseville shows will be held at Parkside Church in Auburn on Saturday, 2/22 after the Dance Audition.
  • Dance Auditions will be held at Parkside Church on Saturday, 2/22 starting at 9:00am (Everyone who auditioned on Friday must attend the dance audition also.)
  • PLEASE NOTE that there is a separate production fee of $175 for the show. Parents are required to volunteer 20 hours.

Auditions are for CYT Students ages 8-18 who are currently enrolled in a class. Auditions are open and friends and parents are encouraged to stay and cheer on the students who are auditioning. Watching other participants is a valuable learning opportunity. Auditions are limited to ONE MINUTE in length. We are requesting only singing--no monologues.. We recommend that your child sing a song in his/her range, add movement or dance, and introduce him/ herself with energy and confidence. It is important to smile, project, make eye contact with the directors, and be well prepared in every way.

Music: You will be able to upload your music to the new audition form. It's best if you have a YouTube link or an actual song file rather than getting a song through iTunes, Spotify or Amazon. We cannot open files through these services. You may also have a friend or family member who plays piano or guitar accompany you. There will be a piano available at auditions. The director needs to see how well the student can stay with the music, both in tune and in rhythm.

Dance Auditions will be held Saturday, 2/22 at 9:00am. All students who audition must attend the dance audition. Students will be taught a dance(s) from the show, and then be asked to perform it for the directors. Parents are welcome to stay and watch the dance audition. Approximate end time is 11:00 am.

Callbacks will be on Saturday, 2/22 immediately following the Dance Auditon. CYT callbacks are closed to everyone except the show directors. The directors will call back certain students to sing again, read a scene, dance some more or any combination of these. They will often ask pairs or groups of students to read scenes to see how different combinations of sizes and personalities work together. However, just because a student is not called back does not mean that he or she will not be cast in the show.

Please note:
Students who audition are NOT eligible for a class tuition refund regardless of casting.
