The future king of Pride Rock, young Simba grows to understand himself and embrace his responsibilities, despite the many challenges and hardships that overcome him when his evil Uncle Scar plots to take the throne for himself. With the death of his father unfairly on his conscience and a pack of mangy, slobbering hyenas doing Scar’s evil bidding, it takes strength of character, humility, and forgiveness of self and others for Simba to prevail. Along the way, Simba’s bright, loyal friends help him, teaching him many life lessons that prepare him to be a bold, fair ruler of Pride Rock like his father before him.
Full of the beauty of tradition and the importance of realizing your own strength, Lion King depicts the maturing and shaping of a young, brave heart from the gravity of accepting responsibility for a kingdom, to the light-hearted reminder of Hakuna Matata.

Show Notes:

  • Auditions will be held at Auburn Grace Church on Monday, August 14th starting at 6:30pm. Plan on staying for the dance auditions, as well.
  • Callbacks (for those who receive an email to return to read for a specific role) will be held at Valley Springs Church on Saturday August 19th starting at 9:00am.

Auditions are for CYT Students ages 8 through freshman year of high school, who are enrolled in a current class. Auditions are open, as friends and parents are encouraged to stay and cheer on the students who are auditioning. Watching other participants is a valuable learning opportunity. Auditions are limited to ONE MINUTE in length. This is a time for your child to show the best of his or her talents. We recommend that your child introduce themselves with energy and confidence, and sing a song in his/her range. It is important to smile, project, and be well prepared in every way. Some students may prefer to present a one-minute monologue or comic routine, or a one-minute dance routine, if they feel this would show a student's talents better than a song. As part of the audition process, however, your child may also be asked to sing and/or learn a short dance routine.

Please bring your own accompaniment background. This could mean tracks on a CD with a CD player, tracks on an ipod or other device, or a friend or family member who plays piano, guitar or another accompanying instrument. There will be a speaker available at auditions as well as a piano or keyboard. The directors needs to see how well the student can stay with the music, both in tune and in rhythm and a capella singing is not recommended.

If the student is called back, an email will be sent out to the parents within a couple of days after the audition. All callbacks will be held the following Saturday, August 19th at Valley Springs church in Roseville. CYT callbacks are closed to everyone except the show directors. The directors will call back certain students to sing again, read from the script, dance some more or any combination of these. They will often ask pairs or groups of students to read scenes to see how different combinations of sizes and personalities work together. However, just because a student is not called back does not mean that he or she will not be cast in the show.

For additional audition information (plus so much more), check out the Parent's Guide to CYT on the home page of our website.
