Description:

Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged "newsies." When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what's right!

Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score with the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe.” Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and every audience.

VOCAL & PRELIMINARY DANCE AUDITIONS:
Friday, Aug. 15 @ Radiant Church (7801 Hazel Ave., Orangevale )
  • Students will sign up for a 20 min. group audition slot sometime between 4:00-8:20pm.
  • Please choose an accompaniment track with no vocals (such as a karaoke track - no a cappella audition songs).
    • Audition song cut should be no more than 1 minute. The director needs to see how well the student can stay with the music, both in tune and in rhythm. You will be able to upload your music to the audition form. It's best if you have a YouTube link or a song file. We cannot access tracks through iTunes, Spotify or Amazon.
  • For the Dance portion, students will learn choreography at home via video and will come ready to perform it for the directors following their vocal audition. This is performed in a group with the other auditioners in the same time slot.

CALLBACKS: (including Featured Dancers)
Saturday, Aug. 16 @  9am
  • The purpose of Callbacks is for the directors to see certain students dance additional choreography, sing a selection from the show, read a scene, or any combination of these.
  • Directors may ask pairs or groups of students to read scenes to see how different combinations of personalities, ages, and heights work together.
  • CYT callbacks are CLOSED to everyone except the artistic team.
  • If a student is not "called back" it DOES NOT mean that they will not be cast in the show.
PLEASE NOTE:
  • Students who audition are NOT eligible for a class tuition refund, regardless of casting.
  • All students cast in the show will be charged a production fee of $250
  • All families are required to serve A MINIMUM OF 20 HOURS on a parent team.
