The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

Based on the original Broadway production that ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, and the Academy Award-winning motion picture, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. is a fantastic adaptation of the story of transformation and tolerance.

Show Notes:

  • CYT students ages 8-18 who are currently enrolled in a class IN FOLSOM may audition for this show.
  • An online audition form will be emailed to all students enrolled in a CYT class that selected to participate in auditions. The form will require a bio photo upload, music track upload, and costume measurements in addition to other information.
  • Auditioning students must agree to accept any role. Those that would like to audition for specific roles are asked to audition in a future show.
  • Some who audition may also be requested to attend a Callback on a second date.

VOCAL & PRELIMINARY DANCE AUDITIONSHeld on Tuesday, Feb 27 .   Location: Oak Hills Church - 1100 Blue Ravine Rd. (Folsom)
Students will sign up for a 30 min group audition slot sometime between 3:30 - 8:30pm.  Please choose a track with no accompanying vocals (such as a karaoke track). Audition music should be no more than 1 minute. Auditions should be to music (not acapella). The director needs to see how well the student can stay with the music, both in tune and in rhythm. You will be able to upload your music to the audition form. It's best if you have a YouTube link or an actual song file rather than getting a song through iTunes, Spotify or Amazon. We cannot open files through these services.  Students will learn choreography at home via video and will come ready to perform it for the directors right after their vocal audition.

CALLBACKS (including Featured Dancers) : Held on Wednesday, Feb 28 starting at 4:30pm. The directors will call back certain students to sing again, read a scene, dance some more or any combination of these. They will often ask pairs or groups of students to read scenes to see how different combinations of sizes and personalities work together. CYT callbacks are closed to everyone except the show directors.  If a student is not "called back" it does not mean that they will not be cast in the show.

  • Students who audition are NOT eligible for a class tuition refund regardless of casting.
  • All students cast in the show will be charged a production fee of $175.
  • Families are required to volunteer 20+ hours on a parent team.

A young prince who was hideously transformed by the Enchantress' s spell. A complex character: a dictator, a hurt child, a hero, a defender and a smitten prince.

Pompous and dim-witted, will do whatever it takes to win Belle's hand. Gaston has all the confidence in the world but lacks the humility to balance it.

An aging and eccentric inventor, but more importantly, the adoring and protective father of Belle. A "crazy old man" that conveys some very strong emotions: fear and fatherly love

Gaston's equally dim-witted lackey. This character needs to be Gaston's foil and should double the laughs for them both

A confident, charming French mâitre d who (under the enchantress's spell) is becoming a candelabra. He has an incessant bickering rapport with Cogsworth

The British major-domo of the castle who is becoming a clock. he shows a fatherly compassion for Belle yet is perfectly submissive to the master, the Beast. Cogsworth enjoys feeling like the boss.

Mrs. Potts

Mrs. Potts' son who is becoming a teacup. Chip has a wonderful naïveté that endears him to all of the Servants.

Madame De La Grande Bouche

An opera singer who is becoming a wardrobe. Madame is larger-than-life in everything she does, diva with a heart!

The maid of the castle who is turning into a feather duster. She misses the finer things in life. Babette is happy to be at Belle's service at a moment but longs to be human.

Les Filles De La Ville

Three girl in love with Gaston and will do almost anything just to be near him. Comedic role!
