Class Description

Calling all leading men, little women, every-day heroes, and star-crossed lovers; get your drama on, bring a playmate and let’s play!  Plays, directors and roles will be assigned on the first day of the session.

Aubrey Muffett

An English major at William Jessup University, Aubrey Muffett was blessed to be a former CYT student. Performing in two shows, her favorite role was Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. In 2014, Aubrey was honored with 1st place in the National ‘My CYT Story’ contest at Expo in Houston. She has written several scripts for CYT showcases, taught a script writing class and CYT summer camp, and assisted taught drama and Improv. Aubrey was thrilled to lead Improv Team to 2015 CYT Expo! She has a music background in piano, cello, and some voice. Aubrey served as peer writing coach in Sacramento’s 916 Ink classes culminating in 3 collaborative published books. The 4th child in her own Von Trapp size family, Aubrey enjoys hiking, reading, and naturally – writing.

Andrea Smit

Andrea Smit brings to CYT her years of experience as an event planner, set dresser, set designer, and props master. While getting her BA in Interior Design, she interned with CBS studios working on the sets of television shows and commercials. During the years she spent with the Foothills Theatre Company, she worked in various positions as a set dresser, set designer, props master, and assisted with costume design. She is currently the Props Committee Chair for CYT Sacramento’s Roseville productions. Her two biggest passions are creativity and kids, and she feels so blessed to have the opportunity to share her experience with the students at CYT.

Kevin Johnson

Kevin Johnson is an actor, singer, dancer, director and visual artist. His visual art is signed “KJohnson”. He has worked as an actor for 40 years and a graduate from the University of Evansville. He has worked with IRT, the Phoenix Theatre, Edyvean Theatre, Indianapolis Civic Theatre, Soul People Repertory Theatre, Actors’ Inc., San Francisco Mime Troupe, Intersection of the Arts in San Francisco, Indianapolis Opera Company, Footlite Musicals, where he won an encore award for the musical “Grand Hotel”. He toured Europe with the Chorale Ayers while studying in England. He has worked Summer-stock Theatres with Cross- Roads Repertory Theatre in Terre Haute, The Weathervane Theatre in Whitefield, New Hampshire, and Memphis Black Rep in Memphis, TN. He has also worked in film and TV. Though he lived ten years in San Francisco he has returned to Indianapolis, his home town, to care for his mother, who has now passed on. He is thankful for the time he had with her. He is the son of the late- Alonzo “Pookie” Johnson an Indianapolis Jazz Legend. He had a feature character role in the Movie film Short: “A Song for Jade” which won awards in San Francisco, Oakland and the Los Angeles Black Film Awards. Since his return to Indianapolis, He has worked with Asante Children’s Theatre, Freetown Village, Spotlight Players, Indy Bard, No Exit Productions, Phoenix Theatre, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Philip Watt Productions, and the San Francisco Mime Troupe to name a few. He also has 2 commercials playing one for L.S. Ayres at the Indiana History Society where he is an employee for the Cole Porter Room and the Healing Bodies, Changing Minds exhibit. He also has a commercial running for the St. Vincents Cancer Care.

Gillian Smit

Gillian Smit is excited to bring her passion for theatre and experience in theatrical design to CYT Sacramento. While studying English and journalism at Long Beach State, she took a step back from performance and poured her creativity into designing and creating sets, props, and costumes. A former CYT student, Gillian has assisted with “backstage” classes and continues to work on the sets and props team in Roseville. If you can’t find her at rehearsal, she is probably off somewhere tinkering with tricky props, faux painting boxes, or climbing a fake tree to dress the set.
