Counselor:

Gillian Smit

Gillian Smit is excited to bring her passion for theatre and experience in theatrical design to CYT Sacramento. While studying English and journalism at Long Beach State, she took a step back from performance and poured her creativity into designing and creating sets, props, and costumes. A former CYT student, Gillian has assisted with “backstage” classes and continues to work on the sets and props team in Roseville. If you can’t find her at rehearsal, she is probably off somewhere tinkering with tricky props, faux painting boxes, or climbing a fake tree to dress the set.

Counselor:

Katie Toussaint

A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Katie has been participating in the arts all of her life. Katie has a BA in Music, vocal performance from California Polytechnic State University. After graduation, Katie became a technical intern at California Musical Theatre's Music Circus for their 2011 season. There she worked for both the music production team, and wardrobe and fell truly head over heels for professional musical theatre. In 2012 Katie moved to southern California where she performed in numerous styles and performing venues such as Disney's California Adventures and Knott's Berry Farm, among others. Katie has taught voice, piano and music theory for several years, and has music directed several musical theatre productions. Katie moved back up to northern California in 2016 to be closer to extended family. She is loving life with her husband (Eric), daughters (Ellie & Addie) and 2 dogs, and pursuing life as a performer and teacher of the arts. Soli Deo Gloria.

Counselor:

Amy Petersen

Amy earned her Bacholars of Dance and minor in business at San Jose State University. While she was a student she was cast in Company One; the resident musical theater troupe, and University Dance Theater; the resident contemporary company. Upon graduation she moved to New York City where she was a part of Transform Arts (Campus Crusade for Christ), a ministry to the professional world of artists to evangelize in the arts. With her time in NYC she was cast with the Emma Elliot Dance Company, Hillsong Church dance team, and The Ovation Television Network. With Hillsong she performed in venues such as Madison Square Garden, The Manhattan Center, and the Barkley’s Center. She had the opportunity to teach dance with an amazing team at Greenhouse Arts Center located in Harlem. Also her heart was developed for dance missions and she had the opportunity to travel to Cuba, and Mexico City; teaching and performing worship dance. Amy currently teaches and choreographs with Thrive Arts Academy. She currently dances with Jacob Gutierrez-Montoya’s Sacramento Contemporary Dance Theater. She is planning and preparing to dance and evangelize in Paris with Transform Arts this upcoming summer. Amy is honored and excited to start teaching with CYT!

Counselor:

Tanner Coppernoll

CYT alumni, Tanner Nolan Coppernoll, is ecstatic to fulfill a position in teaching students of all ages his knowledge of the arts. Called to be a pastor from the Lord, he feels as if he is receiving a head start in beginning his ministry when working at CYT. Tanner has done eight major performances in his life. Pertaining to those performances, his favorite roles have been Tommy Djlas (CYT’s “Music Man”), Perchik (CYT’s “Fiddler on the Roof”), and Johnathan Northbrook (CYT’s “Mary Poppins Jr.”). Tanner has always been involved with visual arts, singing, and some times dancing (in his home kitchen, that is). High school sparked the interest of the arts in Tanner’s life. It was there where he would take on two years of drama and choir classes, speech, two years of yearbook, and six musicals. In his second year at Sierra College, majoring in Photography has blessed him with many opportunities to take arts classes (such as: Poetry, History of Music, History of Theatre, and Photography). He now successfully owns his very own business, “Vision Photography”, displaying the love of Christ through the gift of visual arts God blessed him with. Alongside his business, God has placed him in the ministry where he fulfills the position of a high school counselor at First Baptist Church of Auburn (where he runs the social media, leads bible studies, and does worship). Tanner plans to focus on the character of students' hearts, teach visual concepts in a unique way, and how that interconnects with theatre and art as a whole. His concept of teaching will always be Christ-centered and wants to glorify Him through all of the classes he teaches.
